Welcome city enthusiast! For those who don’t know, I’m Robin and founder of A City Made By People, a creative studio (me) on a mission of making cities more human, mostly through conversations + connections. Enjoy this updated newsletter format with updates, observations, announcements, and whatever helps us to celebrate the cities we live in.
Happy June friends, the weeks are flying by and it’s time for a new round of updates. And there are some opportunities - check them out below!
Image of the month - a great shot from a Rotterdam square where life comes together.
1. Opportunity - Are you ready to shape your good place?
From the many conversations I had on the public bench, I realized that many of us are seeking for an optimization in life, something new and exciting, and that there’s always something you want to change, in search of shaping that good place.
It could be about moving places, a career change, the search for connection, community, and belonging. So what if we could host a program where we help citizens take that next step? Offering support through like-minded citizens, mentoring, modules with exercises? That’s why we’ve launched the Good Place Summer Program.
Is this you, are you on a crossroad or stuck, and do you want to know more?
Visit the page, send me a message or book a 1:1 call for more info.
2. Product - A bench with a purpose
We’ve been working on this for several months, but a logical spin-off from the Good Place podcast series: a Good Place Bench. We’re excited to have a physical product where we can host more meetups amongst citizens on location and exchange stories to help each other further.
Thanks to the great collaboration with Kristen of Plot Twist Placemaking for making this a reality, the design via team Aanpact we were able to build a 1.0 version of the bench.
A bench with a purpose, that will go places to meet likeminded citizens in cities.
3. Experience - Urban Future Conference
We were happy to have partnered with Urban Future Conference in Rotterdam last week, which granted us a spot to premiere the Good Place Bench.
Across multiple days we invited various city makers from around the world for a conversation, who all gathered and shared valuable insights during the congress in Rotterdam. Thanks to everyone who shared a bench with us, enjoy the conversations here.
4. Conversations - Via Berlin and Groningen to Rotterdam - Lior Steinberg
He fell in love with The Netherlands, the cycling lifestyle, the way people live here, its people, the Dutch, and is now stuck here for the better. As an urban planner, Lior is working on making cities better and healthier places.
He's an advocate of fewer cars in cities, and helping residents get into action and make changes in their own neighborhoods. What really makes a good place?
5. Observation - Nómada Estudio Urbano
I only came across this account on Instagram last week, but I’ve never seen any more colorful projects than what they are creating. Based in Mexico, these projects around playgrounds are so colorful. An incredible inspiration and I hope one day, we can meet or collaborate with them on making cities more human and fun . Are your playgrounds so colorful? Check our Nómada Estudio Urbano
6. Coming up - Summer Fest at Jacobahof in The Hague
We’re excited to have been asked to document the Summer event at Jacobahof on the 21st of June. Throughout this little city garden in The Hague, we will host a bench, capture conversations and document how citizens roll up their sleeves for their neighbourhood.
Want us to support your city or neighbourhood with creative communication ideas, that can help spark connection and conversation? Please get in touch!
Thanks for your time and support. Feel free to reach out or share this list of inspiration with your network. I hope we’ll meet at one of the many events or public benches.
Have a nice day,
Robin
